Establishment of Bioethics Chapter in Oaxaca

A significant event in Oaxaca marked the establishment of the Oaxaca Chapter of the National Mexican Academy of Bioethics, aiming to enhance ethical education among future professionals. The event featured prominent speeches and discussions on the role of bioethics in academia and society.


On February 7th, a significant event for the national biotechnology occurred in Oaxaca: the establishment of the Oaxaca branch of the National Academy of Biotechnology of Mexico (ANMB). The ceremony took place at Anáhuac University Oaxaca (UAO), where scholars, representatives from the health sector, and students gathered to strengthen connections around ethical reflection and training in the professional field.

Important figures from the academic and professional community were present at the event, including Dr. Jorge Domínguez Sánchez, an academic, Dr. Víctor Casildo Borekes López, and the president of the academy, Francisco Javier Ochoa Carrillo. UAO's rector, Dr. Francisco Javier Ochoa Carrillo, emphasized the importance of the establishment of the new ANMB branch in Oaxaca in accordance with the organization’s regulations and highlighted the significance of the National Mexican Academy of Biotechnology's 30th anniversary.

Dr. Jorge Domínguez Sánchez, the president of ANMB, underscored the importance of forums for the further development of biotechnology in Mexico. Dr. Víctor Casildo Borekes López presented a lecture titled "Biotechnology in Oaxaca, genesis of the Oaxaca branch," reinforcing ANMB's aim to expand reflection and practice of biotechnology throughout the country.

The official establishment of the branch in Oaxaca was finalized by the signing of the founding act by a notary, confirming the existence of the new branch and its contribution to the progress of biotechnology in the region. As part of the program, three master classes were held, including a lecture by Dr. David Ricardo Mayena García on coordinating research in biotechnology.

Dr. Rodríguez Villegas highlighted the interest of the Universidad Anáhuac Oaxaca in the comprehensive training of its students with an emphasis on ethical principles. Thanks to this initiative, ANMB reaffirms its goal of spreading the reflection and practice of biotechnology in Mexico, particularly stressing the importance of strengthening connections in societies with strategic significance in the academic and professional fields.
